Oldest rivalry hits the hardwood

Male (2-3) and Manual (5-0) are known around this area for heated games on the gridiron but last night reinforced that it is obvious; these teams really don’t really care for each other in any sport (Quick Recall/Glee club included.) Manual pulled out the ‘W’ over rival Male in a 52-48 battle. The senior for the Crimsons, Q. Thompson help pour in 16 points for the Rams, and is well known for his productivity on the football field as one of the best receivers in the city. But The Manual basketball team is very happy to get one of their best and experienced players back on the court.
The Male Bulldogs were without two key players in their starting rotation (W. Parker/ T. Belew) but hope to get them back in the coming games. The Bulldogs should have an optimistic outlook on the season due to the monster game by Zach Moran he poured in 19 points and game high 17 rebounds. The Crimson’s pressure was giving the Bulldogs a ton of issues throughout the game, but when Male would get the ball inside to Z. Moran it was very difficult for Manual to stop him on the block.
It became a hold the ball, foul us, and shoot free throws type of game with four minutes remaining in the 4th quarter, (Yes, I know… you should feel sorry for me.) All joking aside, if I were a calling the shots and there was no shot clock, I’d do the exact same thing.
Although the Manual basketball team went 3-9 for free throws in the final minutes of the ball game, Male did not take advantage of the steal on the inbound passes or make a big shot down the stretch. I was really hoping for Male/Manual overtime, but not with the basketball teams… I was going to pitch the idea to both Coach Thompson (Manual) and Miller (Male) that they rest their players and let the student sections have a tug of war contest at mid court, Winner takes all. No worries, I already gave myself a pat on the back for the brilliant suggestion. It was a tie in the insult department as both student sections were throwing low blows toward each other.
Now to everyone’s favorite part…. *Drum Roll*…
