No. 1 Trinity Tops Franklin County

Trinity Rolls in Final Tuneup for Friday’s Game with St. Xavier at Freedom Hall

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – No. 1 Trinity took control early and rolled to a 76-35 win over Franklin County at Trinity’s Steinhauser Gymnasium.

Playing at home for just the second time this season, the top ranked Shamrocks extended their overall winning streak to 11 games, the third longest streak in program history, and remained unbeaten in the state of Kentucky at 14-0. Every win against in-state competition this season has been by at least 13 points.

The Shamrocks used a 17-0 run over 3:34 of the first and second quarter as part of a larger 26-2 run to push an 11-6 lead to 37-8 with 5:49 left in the second quarter. During the 26-2 spurt, the Shamrocks got three-point field goals from four different players and seven straight points by senior guard Charles Foster.

The Shamrocks hit an impressive 7-of-13 from behind the three-point arc in the first half.

The victory gave Trinity’s class of 2012 the 85th win of their Trinity careers, tying the school record for a graduating class. Nathan Dieudonne, Charles Foster, Troy Saxton, Hunter Hepler, Andrew Perito and Damon Thurman have an 85-22 record in their time at Trinity, having won titles in the King of the Bluegrass (2009), Republic Bank Classic (2009, 2011) and two Louisville Invitational Tournament titles (2010, 2012). Three of the six seniors have already committed to college basketball programs. Trinity also has two senior student managers in Stephen Anderson and Chad Hartlage.

The Shamrocks were back on the court for the first time since their impressive 2012 Republic Bank/Coca-Cola Louisville Invitational Tournament run where they won their four games by an average of 27.5 points. Trinity claimed its third Louisville Invitational Tournament title in the 65-year history of the prestigious event, previously winning the title in 2005 and 2010. The Shamrocks beat Eastern, Jeffersontown and Moore in less than 30 hours to propel them to the title.

Trinity returns to the court Friday, Jan. 20, 2012 when the Shamrocks face St. Xavier at historic Freedom Hall. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. Trinity has won five straight games in the series and seven of the last eight. Trinity is 6-1 against the Tigers when playing at Freedom Hall since the series moved to the venue in 2004.

The game with the Tigers is the first of a demanding four game stretch away from home for the Shamrocks that includes games with unbeaten Madison Central and Pleasure Ridge Park. After the four game swing, Trinity ends the season with six of its final seven games of the season in Steinhauser Gymnasium on the campus of Trinity High School in the heart of St. Matthews.

  1. The film clip is fine, not quite the definition of earlier clips, but pretty good. Don’t worry. And thanks.

  2. It was experimenting with a different camera and it didn’t work out.LOL
