Shamrocks Will Play Host to Six-Time State Champion Lafayette on Senior Night on Friday
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – No. 1 Trinity claimed the top seed in the 27th District with a 73-54 win over Atherton in Steinhauser Gymnasium.
Kentucky Mr. Basketball candidate Nathan Dieudonne had a career high 26 points, hitting his first 12 shots attempted inside the three-point arc, to lead the Shamrocks. He finished the night 12-of-14 from the field.
Trinity has now won 17 of the school’s last 18 games. The Shamrocks are 35-5 in their last 40 regular season games.
The Shamrocks swept their 2011-2012 district schedule, posting wins over Seneca (87-23 on Dec. 13) and Waggener (70-40 on Jan. 27) previously. Trinity used a 16-1 run in the second half, including a 12-1 run to end the third quarter, to erase a 40-39 lead midway through the third quarter. The Shamrocks led by as many as 23 in the fourth quarter on their way to the win.
With their 22nd win of the season, the 2011-2012 team moved into a tie for third place on the single season wins list in program history. The team is just the fifth in program history to reach the 22-win mark. 2004-2005 team had a school record 29 wins and the 2009-2010 team registered 26 wins. Joe Thompson’s 1975-1976 teams also had 22 wins.
The Shamrocks return to action on Friday when the Shamrocks play host to Lexington’s Lafayette High School. The Generals are the state leader in state championships in the state of Kentucky with six. Tipoff is set for 8:00 p.m. with senior night festivities set to begin at 7:30 p.m. The remaining home schedule also includes matchups against Central (Feb. 11), Elizabethtown (Feb. 14) and Jeffersonville (IN) (Feb. 17).
The Shamrocks also claimed the top seed in the upcoming 27th District Tournament with the win. Complete tournament pairings and schedule will be released in the upcoming week.
